Finland signs the Moscow Peace Treaty

The Finnish delegation signed the Moscow Peace Treaty in Moscow on the evening of 12 March. The settlement transferred the Karelian Isthmus with Viipuri, Ladoga Karelia, territory around Salla and other areas to the Soviet Union and leased Hanko for a naval base. The territorial terms exceeded the concessions discussed during the autumn negotiations and removed major population and industrial areas from Finland.
