Operation Bagration

Second Tank Army reaches the Warsaw approaches

2nd Tank Army pushed toward Warsaw from the southeast and northeast and reached the Wołomin area on 30 July, bringing Soviet armour close to the capital's eastern suburbs. The advance had outpaced much of the supporting infantry and was increasingly dependent on fuel and ammunition moving over the long road network behind 1st Belorussian Front. German armoured formations were arriving around Warsaw at the same time. What had been a pursuit was becoming a meeting battle.
