Combe Force reaches the road first
A wheeled column under Lieutenant-Colonel John Combe reached the coast road south of Beda Fomm around midday. Riflemen, armoured cars and anti-tank guns established a roadblock as the first Italian vehicles appeared from the north. The force was small enough that the retreating army initially underestimated the obstacle. Its task was to hold the road until the armoured brigades coming from Antelat could arrive and begin attacking the length of the column.
