Operation Dragoon

The link-up

A patrol of the French 1st Armoured Division from Dragoon met a patrol of Patton's Third Army from Normandy near Nod-sur-Seine. The two invasions of France had joined. From this day there was a single continuous Allied front from the North Sea to the Swiss border, and the German position in France was reduced to the fortress ports on the Atlantic and the frontier defences in the east.
