Soviet forces completed the destruction of the Bobruisk encirclement after Ninth Army's trapped formations attempted to break west through narrowing corridors. Large numbers of German troops were killed or captured, and surviving groups escaped without the organisation or equipment needed to recreate their divisions immediately. The result removed the southern anchor of Army Group Centre at the same moment that the northern route through Orsha had opened.
