The Belorussian strategic operation ends
Soviet operational accounting closes the Belorussian strategic offensive on 29 August. The front now ran hundreds of kilometres west of its June position: Army Group Centre had been expelled from most of Belorussia, Soviet armies stood deep in Lithuania and eastern Poland, and bridgeheads across the Vistula had created starting positions for later operations. The Red Army had not destroyed every German formation in the theatre or broken directly into East Prussia and Warsaw.
