Operation Dragoon

The Alpine flank is secured

Detachments pushed east into the Alps to cover the right flank of the advance against the Italian frontier, taking Grenoble and moving into the mountain passes. The Moroccan goumiers of the French forces, mountain troops with pack mules, were used in country where wheeled transport could not go, as they had been in Italy at the Aurunci mountains that May.
